What you will learn

In this 7-week course, you will learn the basics of pattern drafting for fabric bags.
I will guide you through the bag design process from concept to construction. You will learn how to create three-dimensional bags using two-dimensional shapes, add seam allowance, create design lines, manipulate the pattern, and draft various styles of pockets.
You will create a pattern from scratch, and sew a mock-up using calico to develop your ideas.

You will be able to use images found on Pinterest or in a magazine as an inspiration to gather bag shapes, strap ideas, closures and other features that will help you develop your patterns.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

develop your own designs and draft bag patterns from scratch.
adapt commercial sewing patterns.
understand the relationship between 2D and 3D forms.
understand different construction techniques for bag-making.
